SMMT: Tesla Model 3 and Model Y lead UK September EV registrations
SMMT's October 5 update reports 99,201 battery-electric car registrations in September, with Tesla's two models taking the top spots.
Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y led UK battery-electric car registrations in September, according to SMMT's October 5 update. The Model 3 recorded 9,929 registrations and the Model Y 5,946. Together, they accounted for about 16.0% of the month's battery-electric total. [1]
SMMT reported 99,201 battery-electric registrations, which it described as a monthly record. That was 36.3% above September 2025 and represented 28.3% of the 350,536 new cars registered across all powertrains. [1]
The Model 3 also ranked second in the overall new-car table, behind the Jaecoo 7. The Model Y ranked fifth. Those rankings include petrol, diesel and hybrid models as well as EVs. [1]
Through September, SMMT reported 454,947 battery-electric registrations, or 26.2% of the year-to-date new-car market. This is the October 5 update to its October 2 preliminary report. The figures measure UK registrations, not Tesla's global deliveries or factory output. [1]
