Tesla now lists eligible Model 3 and Model Y vehicles for Powershare Home Backup, letting their batteries help power a home during an outage. Tesla specifies a maximum continuous output of 11.52 kW. [1]

For these cars, the setup requires Powerwall 3 and either a Universal Wall Connector or Wall Connector 3. Tesla says Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ compatibility is coming soon, without a date. [1]

Tesla's support page lists Model 3 and Model Y orders in the U.S. and Puerto Rico after October 1, 2026 as capable, along with some earlier-built cars. Owners should check Software > Additional Vehicle Information for an enabled Powershare Support indicator. [2]

The Powerwall and Wall Connector must share a Wi-Fi network, be registered to the same site and be paired. Tesla then directs owners to contact its support team to enable Powershare. [2]

Tesla's support guide estimates that Standard trims can extend backup by up to two days, with Premium and Performance trims adding over two days. Those estimates assume 30 kWh of daily household use and a 90% vehicle charge. Actual duration varies with energy use and starting charge. [2]
