Tesla targets Q2 2027 for customer cars joining its Robotaxi fleet
The forecast concerns Tesla-managed fleet participation; current consumer FSD instructions still require active supervision.
Tesla's Ashok Elluswamy said during the October 21 results webcast that the company expects to begin adding some customer-owned vehicles to its Robotaxi fleet around the second quarter of 2027. He presented the timing as an estimate. [1]
Asked about unsupervised FSD in customer cars, he said Cybercab and Model Y use the same software, which Tesla plans to release to customers as V15. He said customer Model Ys would also need to work within Tesla's geofences and fleet-management system for fully autonomous operation. [1]
The answer tied the Q2 estimate to fleet participation and did not give a separate date for unrestricted personal use. It did not establish eligibility for every model or hardware generation. [1]
Tesla's current FSD (Supervised) support page requires active driver supervision and says enabled features do not make the vehicle autonomous. The forecast does not change those current instructions. [2] [1]
